Throbbing Gristle release Live at the VolksbĂŒhne, Berlin, New Year's Eve, 2005, via Mute.
This release, previously featured in the TG Berlin box set and available on vinyl for the first time, captures Throbbing Gristle's unforgettable New Yearâs Eve performance, part of a specially curated series of live events held at the VolksbĂŒhne, Berlin in 2005 and 2006. The setlist included a preview of five tracks from their first album in 27 years, Part Two: The Endless Notâwhich was released several years later. Fans were also treated to TGâs first encore in 25/26 years, which included iconic songs like âConvincing Peopleâ, âSlug Baitâ, and âHamburger Ladyâwhat an encore!
Formed in 1975, Throbbing Gristle - Chris Carter, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (1950-2020) and Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson (1955-2010), fully delivered on punkâs failed promise to explore extreme culture as a way of sabotaging systems of control. Their impact on music, culture and the arts has been immeasurable, and still felt today across music, film, theatre, and fine art.
âTG Berlin is a fine document of how brilliant the second incarnation gigs wereâ - The Quietus Album of the Week
âJust imagine what it must have been like hearing Hamburger Lady at midnight! That sure beats Auld Lang Syne at least.â - Music OMH
âThe VolksbĂŒhne set is magisterial⊠the groupâs last single will do just fine as a last will and testament, a thing of slippery malevolenceâ - Uncut 8/10
âAll the Throbbing Gristle live recordings, from the tattiest bootleg to the most professional recording, are important. But this one is especially so.â - Electronic Sound
